December 8, 2009 - TechAmerica is pleased to announce the recipient of the Abacus Entrepreneur and Researcher of the Year Awards.
The 2009 Abacus Entrepreneur of the Year Award will be awarded to Kim Patrick Kobza, Co-Founder, Neighborhood America.
Neighborhood America is a provider of Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions that enable public and commercial organizations to leverage what is known today as ‘social media’ to achieve tangible results.
Kobza has led the Neighborhood America through its development and financial growth since 1999. Under Kobza’s leadership, the company has earned the 2008 and 2009 Software Information Industry Association (SIIA) CODiE award for “Best Social Networking Solution,” global awards from the Mobile Marketing Association, and the 2009 ITFlorida award for “Excellence in Web 2.0.”
The 2009 Abacus Researcher of the Year Award will be awarded to Cynthia K. Burzell, Ph.D., Founder and President, AEQUOR, Inc.
Dr. Burzell has led anti-biofilm and anti-fouling product development for the past eight years as a researcher and Founder of Aequor, Inc. She consults with Dr. J. William Costerton, the scientist who discovered biofilm, and Dr. Ananda Chakrabarty, the first scientist to patent a living organism, and is an invited speaker at international technical and scientific conferences. She was an Instructor of Microbiology at St. George's University School of Medicine, Grenada, and undertook research at the molecular level at the University of Gothenberg, Sweden. Dr. Burzell has published numerous articles related to anti-biofilm and anti-fouling, and has written several grants and patent applications on her discoveries.
Previously announced, the Abacus Lifetime Achievement Award will go to Brad Pedersen, Chief Architect, Citrix Systems, Inc.
The Abacus Awards will also recognize Cool Tech. The Cool Tech Award is presented to the company that has developed, and/or introduced a cool product within the past 18 months. The product can be a hardware, software, or technology-service product which is innovative and has created significant new opportunity for the company. The winner of the Cool Tech Award will be determined by a live vote during the event by the Abacus' attendees.
