January 31, 2006 - Neighborhood America today announces that its technology is empowering the innovative interactive
"Seen and Heard in America" campaign launched by ABC News earlier this week.
The campaign, previously announced by both ABC News and AOL, is intended to drive citizen interaction
around current events and issues, and will be kicked off by the upcoming State of the Union address.
Prior to the January 31 airing, viewers will be invited to visit ABCNews.com and submit videos of their
own State of the Union address, some of which will be selected for airing on national television. The
network will also be providing opportunities for their audience to comment on the important issues facing
our nation and submit feedback related to the actual State of the Union address delivered by our
President.
With the prospect of potentially interacting with millions of viewers, ABC News selected Neighborhood
America’s solution as a means for collecting the resulting viewer created content. The innovative web-based
solution will make it easy for the news team to capture video and text content, moderate and
review the submissions, and integrate selected content into their news process to enhance news
coverage.
Neighborhood America's Public Comment Service enables organizations to collect large amounts of
information from the public in a structured and organized manner. With the innovative solution, small
teams can easily manage very large, complex public outreach initiatives.
"Networks are continually challenged to identify innovative ways to interact with their audience, and our
solution enables this interaction by removing the obstacles and burdens that typically accompany it,"
stated Kim Patrick Kobza, Neighborhood America's President and CEO. "Audience interaction is crucial
to a network's ability to build strong communities of interest, and as experience has shown, citizens will
certainly participate when given an easy way to do so. We are pleased to be providing ABC News with
the solution they need to effectively manage the large volume of viewer content that will result from their
efforts."
Neighborhood America's solution also solves the problems encountered when organizations expose their
infrastructures to online content submitted by the public. "Our solution is delivered through a Software as
a Service ('SaaS') model, which means that it is a hosted solution," explained Neighborhood America's
CTO, David Bankston. "The solution is ideal for organizations such as media that have a need for real
interaction with their audience. The SaaS model eliminates the security risks associated with traditional
email programs, such as viruses and spam. It also relieves the organization of the burdens associated
with storing, maintaining and protecting the data."
